Matthew's Biography

Matthew T. Hout has been able to call Fairview Park his home for more than twenty-five years.  The youngest of eight children born into a family of Irish-German descent, he learned early on that enjoying life often comes from listening and cooperating.  One of the major events in his life that exposed him to the many benefits of living in Fairview Park took place at the age of 15 when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s T-cell lymphoma.   The community, schools and neighbors provided welcome and needed support, but also exposed him to Relay for Life, which at that time was being held at Cuyahoga Community College – West.  Matthew was instrumental in brining the event to his back yard, Fairview High School, where it’s been held since.

Shortly after graduating from Fairview High School in 1996, where he served as a Student Council representative for three years, he was offered a position with the American Cancer Society and this ultimately led to him being asked to serve on the Business Advisory Council of the American Cancer Society.   His professional life then took him to United Airlines, where he experienced first-hand the employee-cutbacks of the last decade.  He grabbed hold of the opportunity of this newly available time to pursue his degree in Political Science from Cleveland State University.   While he is completing his degree, he is serving as co-chair of the Board of Zoning & Building Appeals.  With history and politics being favorite past times, Matthew is a member of the Fairview Park Historical Society, Friends of the Library and the Democratic Club.
